Tiny Steps Mommy Celebrates 2nd Anniversary, Introduces Reader Spotlight Series

I started Tiny Steps Mommy two years ago with a cute post about my children climbing into bed with me at night. I didn’t know what I was doing or even why. I only knew that I NEEDED to write again. I NEEDED an outlet and a way to discover what I was passionate about – something that was just for me. Sometimes when we become parents, it’s easy to get lost in simply being a Mommy or Daddy, but in order to survive parenthood you have to find a balance and explore your own interests. Your life, personality, dreams and goals should not disappear simply because you become a parent. For years, it was like I was in a haze of child care routines. My every moment was spent caring for everyone other than myself. I didn’t think I was allowed to make time for something like writing a blog. Little did I understand that this blog would become a community. A window into my future. With each new post, I learn something about myself and about the people who read what I write.

In the last few months, I have been pushing my boundaries and exploring even more interests. I love the path I am on right now and I have so much hope and faith in what I am doing. Sometimes though this allows less time to write on Tiny Steps Mommy. A few weeks ago, I was feeling conflicted and guilty about my inability to create regular content so I reached out to the Tiny Steps Mommy Facebook community and was humbled by the response. I wasn’t fishing for compliments, but many of you made me feel so special. Here is that post:

I had to do something to give back to all of you. Last year, I celebrated my first blogging anniversary by spotlighting organizations and charities that were close to my readers’ hearts. This year I decided to celebrate my blogiversary by creating a Reader Spotlight Series! In the next couple of weeks, I am going to highlight readers who amazingly humored my request to answer questions and send in photos. I adore EVERY word you shared with me. I was inspired by so many people who are dedicated to their families AND pursuing their passions. I was touched by those of you who were honest enough to say you had no clue what the future holds, but that as long as you are surrounded by loved ones you would be okay. I am sharing these spotlights in no particular order (a couple a day) for the next couple of weeks. I hope you enjoy hearing their hearts as much as I do. Below I am featuring my amazing husband and a fellow blogger and entrepreneur who is always so bright she is like a beacon.

Tiny Steps Mommy Reader Spotlight Series

Spotlight On: Ramine Dash aka Tiny Steps Daddy

Tiny Steps Daddy

Tiny Steps Daddy

Where do you live? Annandale, Virginia

Are you a parent? If so, how many children do you have? 4 great kids

What is your favorite food/color/movie/tv show/blog? Sushi, black, Goodfellas, Seinfeld, Tiny Steps Mommy!

What is the role you are most proud of and why? Husband and Father.  I get to love everyone in my home unconditionally every day.

If you could go back in time, what would be the best advice you could give yourself as a child/teen? Slow down on the partying. Once you’re an adult every day can be a party if you want it to be.

What is your passion? Are you able to spend time right now pursing that passion? My passions are changing. I used to love to write. Lately fitness and nutrition is my number one. I can see Education reform/activism becoming a passion soon.

What do you envision for yourself in five years? Hard to say. I know I’ll have my family by my side no matter what I’m doing.

If you had 30 minutes every day to yourself, how would you spend your time? Exercising, or maybe researching something.

How do you measure success, personally and/or professionally? Personally it’s all about my family. Are they happy? If they are then I’m a success. Professionally, if my students are learning and engaged then I am a success.

Who inspires you and why? My grandparents, my parents, my wife, and my kids all inspire me.

What is your biggest challenge? My biggest challenge is balancing my marriage, my career, my kids, and all of the everyday life activities that go along with them.

What is the role you are most proud of and why? The role I’m most proud of is mother, I never dreamed of being a mother when I was a kid. I must say it has taught me so much about myself.

If you could go back in time, what would be the best advice you could give yourself as a child/teen? Don’t rush into love, live life and love will find you when the time is right.

What is your passion? Are you able to spend time right now pursing that passion? My passion is arts and crafts and I’m proud to say I have been able to purse that passion with my From Mi To You business.

What do you envision for yourself in five years? In five years I will be 40 and fly, in the final quarter of raising my son and in the second quarter of raising my daughter. Continuing to live life to the fullest with my Babe and enjoying the fruits of our labor.

If you had 30 minutes every day to yourself, how would you spend your time? Reading, I never seem to have time to just read.

How do you measure success, personally and/or professionally? I measure my personal success by my family. If they have everything they need and some of their wants while being happy, healthy, and thriving in life then I consider that a job well done. Professionally: I’m not looking to climb the corporate ladder but I want to be able to say I enjoy my job and it be the truth. That is the true measure of success for me.

Who inspires you and why? Everything and everybody inspire me, I can see something on TV, hear something on the radio or converse with someone and totally feel inspired.

What is your biggest challenge? My biggest challenge is not letting MI get in my way.

Feel free to share a short story or anecdote from your life that has helped shaped who you are: I left home (by choice) when I was 17, I was happy and excited about living my life. I had no idea what it was like to be an adult; I experienced the highs and lows of life on my own. I wouldn’t have changed it for the world because it shaped me into the amazing person that I am today.

  1. Great job and huge congratulations on your 2 year blogversary, Nicole! That’s the biggest challenge..is to sustain it. So many folks bail early on because of no results. I like what you said here, ” it’s easy to get lost in simply being a Mommy or Daddy” and I’m glad you found a positive outlet. Blogging is soooo cathartic for me. Albeit I’m not a parent but stay busy with Phoenix, my Golden Retriever! btw…I love q & a’s always. They are always so much fun to read. Keep it up! 🙂
