My name is Nicole Dash and I am a mother of four (two boys and two girls) living outside Washington, DC in Northern Virginia. Tiny Steps Mommy is my heartfelt blog about life, family and finding yourself amid the chaos.
I have always considered myself a writer. Even when I wasn’t producing a word, I knew in my heart that I was a writer. I had stories to share. Words and ideas bounced around my mind as I lay in bed, or took a shower, or drove long distances. The quiet moments were filled with thoughts that never came to life. I allowed fear and doubt to hold me back. I allowed my responsibilities to be my excuse. I suppressed what was lingering in my soul for years. It wasn’t until I started Tiny Steps Mommy in 2012, that I found my voice. It took practice and experimentation with different writing styles to realize who I am as a writer. It took time to accept and to believe that what I have to offer is enough. It took courage to share my voice and writing with others.
For nearly 10 years I cared for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in my home-based daycare so I could be home with my brood, but in January 2016 I began a new chapter by opening Play, Work or Dash, a family-oriented coworking space that has on-site childcare for up to three hours per day. This new business is an adventure that has consumed much of my time and energy. I am learning to balance working outside of my house with my family. Sometimes I do this well. Other times, I feel like I’m playing a lot of catch-up. I suppose this is what motherhood is all about. Trying your best and learning to make peace with the rest.
I am proud to call myself a Washington DC Mom Blogger and am amazed by the community that has grown out of this journey. I have made incredible connections and am continually inspired by the people who are placed in my life. My goal is to connect and hopefully gain wisdom from others who are traveling a similar path.
Tiny Steps Mommy is written from the heart and sometimes I get sappy. I also attempt to be funny once in a while. I enjoy writing about pertinent issues related to child care and parenting (although I would never call myself an expert). I also write about my family, myself, my husband, my kids, my daycare and really anything else that is on my mind. I am extremely supportive of my local community – especially women-owned businesses. I occasionally do giveaways or sponsored posts (although this has never been my main focus), but I always give my honest opinions, regardless of compensation.
